ESTA International to Present ADMS and DERMS Course at DistribuTECH 2027 Grid University

ESTA International is pleased to announce that it will present “ADMS & DERMS: Keys to Successful Deployment and Grid Transformation” at DistribuTECH 2027 Grid University on March 1, 2027, at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, Georgia.
Drawing on real-world utility implementation experiences from around the world, this four-hour course will explore the strategies, challenges, and lessons learned that contribute to successful Advanced Distribution Management System (ADMS) and Distributed Energy Resource Management System (DERMS) deployments.
Beyond Technology: What Makes ADMS and DERMS Projects Successful?
As electric utilities modernize their distribution networks and integrate increasing levels of distributed energy resources (DERs), ADMS and DERMS technologies are becoming essential to improving reliability, resilience, operational efficiency, and grid flexibility.
However, successful deployment requires more than selecting and installing technology. Utilities must address complex challenges involving system architecture, procurement, data readiness, integration, cybersecurity, testing, and organizational change.
Drawing on decades of industry experience, ESTA's instructors will examine the decisions and implementation practices that can help utilities avoid common project pitfalls, manage risks, and achieve anticipated operational and business benefits.
What Participants Will Learn
The course will provide guidance on:
Planning and deployment strategies: Developing ADMS and DERMS implementation roadmaps, governance structures, and procurement approaches.
System architecture and integration: Addressing data quality, network model readiness, IT/OT integration, and cybersecurity requirements.
Implementation and operational readiness: Applying effective testing, commissioning, change management, and operator adoption strategies.
Advanced applications: Understanding traditional ADMS capabilities and emerging DERMS use cases involving solar PV, battery storage, electric vehicles, and other distributed resources.
Future grid operations: Preparing for increasing DER penetration and evolving distribution system operating models.
Participants will gain insights from both successful implementations and projects that encountered technical, organizational, and operational challenges.
Meet the Instructors
